SOME MORE THINGS ABOUT THE BARRYSTA

Hi. So this is me.



I worked in more than a half-dozen Starbucks stores in two states over more than 2 years. You would usually find me at the drive-thru window or front register, because my big focus is customer relations. That actually was my main reason for working at Starbucks.

But i did all the tricks. I could make you an awesome cappuccino. I could warm up your food. I could even wash the dishes and take out the trash.

In real life i'm also an award-winning journalist and a previous database design consultant. I wanted to work part-time at Starbucks because i always enjoyed my interactions as a customer and thought being a barista would be a mutually beneficial experience. For a few years, i was right.

OK... SO WHY THIS WEBSITE?

The Barrysta noticed a lot of things about customers. Many aren't sure about what they're ordering. They tolerate what they get because it's still pretty good, but find a lot of things they don't like and don't know what to do about it. Thus the Drinks and Food sections.

They use their app to collect stars, but don't really know how to use it well and don't get all the stars they could be getting. Don't believe me? The Barrysta can't tell you how many customers he told to check their app at the register to make sure they activated the "Double Stars" offer when it's a double-star day. It would've been even worse on Triple-Star day! Thus the App section.

And finally, it's a way to let customers know that everyone has a better experience when they work with baristas, rather than barking out orders and acting abusive to baristas when something small doesn't go perfect. Unfortunately, it happens, and if there's one thing anyone who's worked with the knows it's that he always had his fellow partners' six. So he was trying to prevent having to prove it.

That's The Barrysta's favorite son!



And he really isn't that customer. In fact, he's one of the kindest, caring, funny, and intelligent people you could ever know.

He's a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

And he's a great sport for agreeing to be the icon for THAT section.
